Traveling long hours is always exhausting, especially for people who are not used to it. No matter what kind of vehicle you take it is quite annoying just to sit and wait to arrive. With flights this is absolutely true. You do not have much room for yourself; you are surrounded by many other people. There are dozens of things that could get wrong during the flight, for example, the one sitting behind you could be kicking your seat, or the one in front you could decide to take a nap and push his seat so much that you feel surrounded and even claustrophobic. The food could not be good, as this happens very often in airplanes. You may feel like you will die of boredom, and on the top of that the prices are quite high. At the end of your flight, you feel quite exhausted, both physically and financially. So, if you do not want to go through this emotional hell again, here are 5 things you must do before a long haul-flight.
- Do not judge by the price alone
When we talk about long-term flights, the prices are always quite shocking, especially if you are not used to them. So, what most people do is to find the cheapest flight and, of course, buy a ticket. However, this is not always the best decision. Sometimes it is better to pay some more money, then spend hours in an uncomfortable seat watching boring movies, or even not watching anything at all because the window also would be too far from you. Sometimes it is better to pay a few dollars more than complain and have bad experiences.
2. Watch out for tricky connections
Since long haul-flights take a lot of time to reach the desired far away destination, there are hardly any flights that are direct. Usually you have to go over the quite uncomfortable connecting flights. The most important rule you should remember here is to always check your connecting flights, for example, how much time you would have to get off the plane, get your luggage, clear customs and recheck your luggage again. This sure could take a lot of time. Not to mention that you have to be 20 minutes early for your flight. And if your first flight is late, there is nothing you can do to stop the connecting one, you just miss it. So, make sure you have plenty of time for your next flight, just to be safe.
3. Choose your travel clothing carefully
When you are traveling long hours to make sure that you pick your clothes wisely. You would probably like to feel comfortable and not stiff. Here is what to look for before you dress for the plane. Make sure that you wear flats, never choose high heels instead because from time to time you would like to stand up and be able to walk around, or at least pay a visit to the bathroom. Another thing to look for is stretchy clothes. Even if you are sitting down it does not mean that you should be completely stiff. Pick a pair of clothes that lets you move, literary. Since you probably would want to sleep on the flight, also make sure that your clothes are wrinkle-free so that after you get out of the plane you still look like a celebrity. There are even special stores where you can buy such kind of clothes designed for traveling.
4. Distract yourselves from all the boredom
Even the very thought that you are closed in a plane and you are not able to move a lot is quite depressing and nerve-racking. You could go even more impatient if you keep looking at your watch counting the hours that have left. There is a better idea for you if you want time to pass more quickly. Since you cannot call your BFF on the plane, take this time for yourself, think of it as your own personal time when nobody is going to bother you with problems. Take a book or two with you, make sure that they are interesting and the time will fly when reading them. You could also watch movies. Download the series that you have always wanted to watch, but you did not have time for them at home. Make sure that you also have your tablet battery fully charged; this could be your salvation.
5. Prepare yourself for what is coming
Since the time on the plane will be dedicated only to you, you will be your own boss and you will have the freedom to choose what to do. Make a list of things you have to do when you get off the plane. If you have some work to be done after you land, prepare for it beforehand, on the plane. If you are going to hold a lecture or if you have to attend a meeting, this will be the perfect time for you to revise your notes. If your attention is occupied with something else, the flight will be as fast as the wind.
